welcome to the pour over community! Stainless steel pour overs are a amazing choice. They're virtually unbreakable and can retain temperature successfully. When choosing one, look for high-quality 304 or 316 stainless steel as they are more resistant to corrosion. On top, pay attention to the layout of the spout – a narrow, gooseneck spout permits for better control over the water flow, which is crucial for a consistent brew.

i second what said. I've been using a stainless steel pour over from a tiny foundry for over 2 years now, and it's still nearest new. Another thing to consider is the filter – some stainless steel pour overs accompanied a built-in metal filter, which is reusable and eco-friendly. but you'll need to wash it regularly to prevent clogging.

great points,. I'd on top recommend checking the mass and balance of the pour over. Any designs can be top-heavy, which might prepare them less stable when situated on your cup or carafe. I personally exploit a from a local foundry that's well-balanced and has a wonderful, hefty feel in the hand.

has anyone below tried the double-walled stainless steel pour overs? I've read that they furnish better insulation, trying to keep the coffee warm for longer. but are they value the extra cost?

i have one! The double-walled design does help in maintaining the temperature, which can be truly accessible if you like to take your time brewing. It's a bit more costly, but if you're serious about your coffee and want to avoid rapid temperature loss, it's an excellent investment. Only assuring the inner layer is on top high-quality stainless steel and not a more affordable metal.

i'm curious, how do stainless steel pour overs compare to ceramic ones in conditions of flavor? Does the metal affect the style at all?

from my experience, stainless steel pour overs don't affect the flavor considerably, if at all. They're neutral, unlike any alloy that can provide off a taste. Ceramic can sometimes retain flavors from previous brews alternatively washed properly, but stainless steel is simpler to keep pristine. plus, the thermal conductivity of stainless steel signifies it heats up speedily and evenly, providing you more control on the brewing procedure.

one thing to add is that if you're looking into custom or artisanal options from foundries, you may find unique designs and craftsmanship that you won't get from mass-produced ones. They can be a little bit pricier, but if you appreciate the art work and the longevity, it might be worth it. I have received mine from a small foundry and it's been a great conversation piece aswellas a functional coffee device.
